Dear Mom Force,
In the spirit of this day, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the things we’re thankful for here at Working Moms of Milwaukee.
Looking back at this past year, I must say that we’ve done some incredibly important community projects and none of that could be done without your participation and encouragement, and for that I thank you.
We developed and launched Milwaukee’s First Annual Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Awards where you sent in nominations for your places of work. A panel of moms in our network spent hours reading through all these nominations and then voted for the winners. I thank you for taking the time to send in the nominations, and a special thanks to the women on the panel.
We marched in the Wauwatosa 4th of July parade, spreading our message and pride in front of thousands of people… smiling and waving and handing out candy. To all the moms and families who marched next to me, I thank you. And to the moms who were on the streets of Tosa, waving right back to us and shouting, “Good Job, Moms!” I also thank you.
We were in a video for the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, and in articles for the Journal Sentinel. I thank all the moms who were filmed in front of a gigantic camera and lights and the moms who were interviewed by journalists this year to further spread our message and work.
We planned and executed dozens of events all over the Milwaukee area this past year too. To the moms who volunteer their time, communicate with venues, and show up early to be the welcoming and smiling face to all the new moms there, thank you.
We wrote blog articles, interviewed Moms, talked to leaders in our community. To all the moms who contributed time after the kids were in bed pouring their hearts out onto paper, thank you. Your boldness and openness resonated with our community more than you know.
To the spotlight moms who were featured and vulnerable with their words and photos in front of our entire virtual community, thank you.
We started a new community group, Free for Moms and swapped hundreds of items between each other - just to help one another out. We exchanged words and advice and encouragement through our Mom Force, too. Thank you to everyone who is participating and a special thanks to our moderator.
And you guys, we launched Milwaukee’s Official Directory to Mom Owned Businesses! Some 200 of you, local moms, sent in your information and some of you even sponsored our cause. This project took many hours and without your help too, it wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you so much, Mom Bosses.
And to you, the regular ole’ mom who hasn’t been to an event yet, or at the 4th of July parade, or in any special article. I see you too. And I thank you simply for being here.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone. We sure have a lot to be grateful for.
