Networking Doesn’t Have To Be Awkward

Author: Working Moms of Milwaukee

Welcome to your new one-stop shop for networking professionally and making mom friends! Why is it that networking events can be so awkward? Is it because you feel like you’re selling yourself to strangers? Or is it more that you look around the room and find it hard to relate? Really, it could be either of these things, or both. Whatever makes networking awkward for you… we get it. Networking is a bit awkward.

Working Moms of Milwaukee strives to take the awkwardness out of networking by making sure you have 2 major things in common with other event attendees right off the bat. 1. You’re a mom – and – 2. You work. 1 + 2 = Working mom! It’s much easier to walk into a room, be it a social happy hour at Ruby Tap, a mom’s workout at Mayfair, or any one of our other events without knowing anyone at all, but feeling a connection right away with everyone there.

Many of WMM’s events are kid and family friendly and there’s something about having your kid by your side as you’re growing your network that makes it all more natural. A frequent type of exchange we hear at our events is, “Hi I’m Tristen and this is Max. Max, say hi. Max don’t do that. Stop! I know, we’ll get something to eat soon.” The other mom will look at Tristen with understanding eyes, smile and laugh as she’s wiping her kid’s nose. See? It’s all good. We’re all human, we’re moms and we’re doing the best we can. We all have that in common. And that’s a really big thing to have in common right from the start.

We hope you’ll join us at our next upcoming event. See for yourself. You will be happy you did!
