I have two (2) children- Averie Aguam (9); Carter Aguam (6). I am originally from Cleveland, OH... Come from a family of basketball players- Father (Marquette); Sister (NC State) Triplet Brothers- Kameron (Brown), Kendall (Colgate), Kyle (Colgate).. one of the only families that have had 6 D1 Collegiate Basketball players; have been in Milwaukee since 1994; 4 year letter winner on Marquette Women’s Basketball team; have loved my time with the Bucks and have also enjoyed working on my website and the launch of my voice talent website! I have an amazing husband, Ryan, who is an amazing support system with my crazy schedule... he has great patience.. loyal partner!
What is the best part about being connected with Working Moms of Milwaukee?
Love to be affiliated with an organization that works to uplift, support and engage all mothers of MKE. NO matter your background, career and family make up... we all have similar needs, desires and struggles and this is a hub for all things MOM!
What's been the biggest thing you've learned since the beginning of this 2020 year?
I have learned the importance of NEVER taking anything we do for granted. Enjoy each and every day and cherish the time you have with family, friends and co-workers because in an instant our world can change.
Explain/describe one of your proudest mom moments recently.
Being able to see my children learn to ride their BIKES with no training wheels.. Seems small but I have missed so many moments due to my schedule and being on the go, this time at home has given me the opportunity to pause and enjoy these moments with them.. even watch them learn to ride BIKES!
What's the most challenging aspect of your personal life right now?
I would say the most challenging time in my life right now, is getting a few moments for myself. I struggled with that prior to the pandemic and now that I am home 100% of the time along with my children and husband.. I miss that and sometimes yearn for a few moments of alone “mommy time”.. lol.. I miss the WellSpa! Lol.. maybe one day right?!
What is the most challenging aspect of your professional life right now?
For sure not being physically in the office with the rest of my team and being able to engage with them on a daily basis has been a struggle. Also living in an industry that is literally trying to reinvent how our games are played and our business is executed in what is such an undetermined future.
What's your advice for others that aim to be in an executive role in the future?
Continue to work hard, ask questions be curious, develop mental libraries about your desired industry constantly and NETWORK, you never know what nuggets of knowledge you can unleash from new people you engage with when you have the chance!
Do you have a favorite place to go in Milwaukee?
Happy Hour cocktails- Stella Van Buren’s; Relaxation location- WellsSpa (Pfister); Restaurant- Carnevor Milwaukee
Do you have any words of advice for other moms, especially new moms?
Never stress yourself about trying to develop a work/life balance.. no such thing.. Just focus on being “PRESENT” where ever you are. When at work.. focus on work.. when home with the family/ baby.. be PRESENT with them and put your phone/laptop down… (at least until they are all sleep..lol)
Why do moms make great leaders?
Moms make great leaders because we have to lead not only our own lives, but in many situations we lead in the developing, cultivating, nurturing and molding our little mini-me’s into the next great leaders in their own right each and every day.
What are you most excited for this fall?
Excited to live, love and continue to enjoy my family and take whatever life throws our way!
