WMM Interview WMM Spotlight

May 2021 Spotlight Mom | Carrie Chimenti

Happy May moms! This month we're spotlighting Carrie Chimenti, mom to two girls and owner of Chimenti Studios. Learn all about Carrie, her family and her work in our exclusive interview below!

Carrie

Tell us a little about your family.

We were transplants from Michigan in the 1980's. I grew up in Whitefish Bay and went to school at Saint Monicas and DSHA.

Then Ohio for College and eventually Italy for Grad School.  My girls (Gabriella Chiara (8) and Elisabetta Maria (7)) and I live in Fox Point and enjoy cooking, art projects, hiking, being outside, playing outside and board games inside and relaxing by our fireplace.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was contracted by another company in town that no longer exists and I had to set my self up as an LLC so she could 1099 me. Well that set me up to fly off on my own and that is exactly what I did.

What's the best part of running your own business?

I enjoy working for and by myself. I hold myself accountable and to high standards. It is also nice to schedule myself so I can be there for my girls and my family.

Explain/describe one of your proudest mom moments recently.

I have proud moments weekly because of my two girls. Yes, I am proud of my work and what I have accomplished but I am so proud of the people my girls are becoming.  I think that is my greatest legacy, is that I raise two kind, thoughtful, generous girls.

What has been the most challenging part of this past year for you (and/or your family)?

My father has ALS and became paralyzed during the pandemic. My 2 brothers and I and my mother and one caretaker tackled taking care of Dad between out jobs and kids. It is an honor I would not have shied away from.

What is the best part about being connected with Working Moms of Milwaukee?

Seeing what other Moms are doing in Milwaukee.

Do you have a favorite place to go in Milwaukee?

I love Lake Park and eating at the bar. Also love St Paul Fish Market downtown and having dinner at the "tiki" bar.

Do you have any words of advice for other moms, especially new moms?

Do not rush anything. Take it all in. Take time for self care. Breath. Get some rest. And do not give up or give in.

Will you be doing anything fun this summer? What are you most looking forward to?

No plans for this summer, just to be with my girls and spend time with my parents. Family first.
